Karate Do Association of Bengal (KAB) had the privilege of meeting Shri Nisith Pramanik, Hon’ble Minister-in-Charge of Youth Services & Sports and the North Bengal Development Department, Government of West Bengal.
The meeting was warm, meaningful, and focused on the overall development of karate in West Bengal. Discussions revolved around strengthening grassroots participation, supporting athletes, creating better opportunities for young karatekas, and further promoting the sport across the state.

Representing KAB were Hanshi Premjit Sen, President, and Hanshi Joydeb Mondal, General Secretary. During the interaction, the delegation shared KAB’s journey and its commitment towards building a strong sporting ecosystem for karate in Bengal.
For decades, Hanshi Premjit Sen has been one of the driving forces behind the growth of karate in West Bengal and India. Through his vision, dedication, and tireless efforts, thousands of young boys and girls have been introduced to the values of discipline, character building, and sporting excellence through karate. Under his leadership, KAB has expanded its reach across the state, creating opportunities for athletes from both urban and rural areas. Numerous karatekas from Bengal have gone on to represent the state and the country at national and international championships, bringing laurels to West Bengal. Beyond competition, Hanshi Premjit Sen has consistently worked for athlete welfare, coach education, technical development, and the establishment of transparent and structured systems for the advancement of karate. His contribution has played a significant role in making karate one of the most popular martial arts disciplines in the state today.
Hanshi Joydeb Mondal, General Secretary of KAB, has been an integral part of this journey. His dedicated organizational work, commitment to grassroots development, and continuous efforts in coordinating activities across districts have helped strengthen the foundation of karate throughout West Bengal. His contribution has been instrumental in ensuring the smooth execution of KAB’s developmental programs and major events.
During the discussion, KAB highlighted that it is the officially recognized governing body for karate in West Bengal, affiliated with the Karate India Organisation (KIO) and the Bengal Olympic Association (BOA). The association also shared that more than 8 lakh karate practitioners are connected with the KAB movement across the state, making it one of the largest martial arts communities in the region.
The interaction with the Hon’ble Minister was truly inspiring. His vision for youth empowerment, sports development, and the progress of West Bengal resonated deeply with the delegation. His encouragement and positive outlook have further strengthened KAB’s resolve to continue working for the betterment of athletes and the growth of karate.
