The School Games and Activity Development Foundation (SGADF), led by Shivam Thakur, has created history by setting a remarkable world record during the 23rd Indo-Nepal International Championship 2026, held at Rangasala Stadium in Pokhara.
In collaboration with the Nepal Sports Council, SGADF became the first Indian sports organization to send 360 athletes from India to an international multi-sport championship under a single platform. This unprecedented participation has set a new benchmark in Indian sports and established what SGADF describes as a world record.
The Indian contingent delivered an exceptional performance, winning more than 320 medals in Silambam, Yoga, Karate, and Wushu. The medal haul highlighted the talent and determination of young Indian athletes and reflected SGADF’s growing influence in the sports sector.
The driving force behind this achievement is Shivam Thakur, an athlete and sports leader known for his commitment to creating better opportunities for students and sportspersons. Drawing from his own experience as an athlete, Thakur has focused on building a platform that provides competitive exposure, recognized certifications, and international opportunities to participants across India.
Under his leadership, SGADF has emerged as one of the country’s most dynamic sports organizations. More than 15 lakh students and athletes have participated in SGADF events and activities nationwide. The organization’s programs are designed to help participants gain valuable experience while strengthening their prospects for government jobs, scholarships, and admissions to universities abroad.
SGADF has received recognition and support from the Ministry of Youth Affairs and Sports, Government of India. It is also internationally recognized by TAFISA, IAKS, and ICSSPE.
The successful organization of the championship in partnership with the Nepal Sports Council further strengthens SGADF’s international credibility. According to organization officials, medal-winning athletes at international events often become eligible for sponsorships, scholarships, and government support, enabling them to continue training and pursue successful careers in sports.
Looking ahead, SGADF plans to organize Asian-level and World-level Games to provide even greater opportunities for students and athletes. These initiatives are expected to expand international exposure and enhance both academic and professional prospects for participants.
Sports experts say SGADF’s model stands out because it combines competitive sports with educational and career development. The world record achieved in Pokhara is being viewed as a major milestone for Indian sports and a testament to the vision of Shivam Thakur.
As the 360-member Indian contingent returns home with more than 320 medals, SGADF has sent a strong message to the global sporting community: with effective leadership, strategic planning, and dedication, India is capable of achieving extraordinary success on the international stage.
