For Mehr Dhawan, separating the artist from the poet is almost impossible. She often says it feels like asking a fabric to choose between its warp and weft. The two are inseparable, and that is what gives her expression its depth. Her paintings often read like verses and her poetry carries the weight of colour, texture and movement. She moves between the pen and the brush with ease, guided by an inner quiet that fuels her creative world.
Mehr finds comfort in silence. She believes that every artist is in constant conversation with the voice within, and listening to that space allows her work to breathe. Whether she is lost in a long stretch of painting or writing late into the night, her process follows the same instinctive rhythm.
Her recent solo exhibition, Duality, grows from this very place. The show brings together her reflections on the contrasts that shape our world: the lushness of nature against expanding urban landscapes, creation against destruction, and hope against a growing sense of loss. Through both art and poetry, she tried to capture the delicate balance between resilience and vulnerability in the environment.
Some pieces poured out of her effortlessly. Others pushed her to sit with her own doubts about the planet’s future. Yet the process, though challenging, opened a new sensitivity in her work. She visualised visitors walking through the show as if moving through shifting inner weather — wonder, grief, responsibility, and the quiet urge to protect what remains.
For Mehr, Duality is more than a reflection on contradictions. It is a reminder that even in the middle of environmental decline, there is possibility. There is room to restore, to rethink, to reconnect with the world that sustains us.
The exhibition also brought with it a sense of community. Conversations with strangers turned into shared concerns, shared hope. From this space emerged her upcoming collaboration with the Art of Living Foundation, where she will take her message about human choices and their impact on the environment across wider boundaries.
At this moment in her journey, Mehr stands comfortably between two forms of expression. She is both the artist and the poet. And in that union, her work continues to open doors — into nature, into emotion, and into a world that needs to be seen with fresh honesty.
