1. Which industries are worth pursuing?
Engineering and manufacturing accounted for the largest share of visitor registrations. We also saw participation from chemicals, pharmaceuticals, food and beverage, steel and foundry, as well as academia. The sector breakdown tells a manufacturer where it had access to the most potential customers. Enquiries from individual plants help it decide where there may be room to grow.
A supplier that works mainly with food and beverage plants, for instance, might use conversations with pharmaceutical teams to understand how their steam quality requirements differ. If several plants raise a similar requirement, the supplier has a reason to assess whether its existing equipment can serve that application and what it would need to adapt.
Use the sector mix to decide where to focus sales outreach. Use recurring enquiries from separate plants to identify new applications worth testing.
2. Who needs to be involved in the next conversation?
Over 58% of visitors were in top management, middle management, engineering or executive roles. Top management from our primary visitor industries accounted for 27% of all visitors. At a specialist exhibition, this gives suppliers a chance to speak with people who see different parts of the same equipment decision.
An engineer may want to know whether a system can deliver the required steam quality under varying loads. A plant manager may be working out whether it can be installed during a planned shutdown. A senior executive may be weighing the investment against other priorities. In each case, the visitor’s role and the question they ask give the supplier a better idea of what would move the conversation forward.
Use visitor roles and questions to tailor the follow-up. One contact may need performance data, another an installation plan, and another a business case for the investment.
3. Is the opportunity in new capacity or in improving existing plants?
On the floor in Navi Mumbai, we saw large and small booths alike stay busy with prospects looking for equipment suited to specific plant needs. Exhibitors told us first-hand that they were pleased with the relevance of those conversations. A team comparing boilers for a new production line is considering a different investment from a team trying to reduce downtime on an existing line. When similar enquiries come up at several booths or from several plants, that distinction starts to matter for product and service planning.
Searches through our beta AI-assisted matchmaking kiosks added detail. Users raised concerns about fuel costs, scaling, poor steam quality, pressure drops, emissions compliance and unplanned downtime. Among the options they explored were waste heat recovery, condensate recovery, biomass briquettes and automated fuel feeding. These were show-wide search signals. Conversations with plant teams can help establish which problems recur within a sector and whether visitors are comparing options or working on a defined project.
Group enquiries by the problem and the type of work involved. New-line enquiries can inform equipment sales plans, while recurring problems at existing plants can point to opportunities in retrofits, spares or service.
4. Which interests are beginning to turn into projects?
The knowledge programme recorded 6,500 delegate participations across 18 sessions, comprising 16 seminars and two panel discussions. Topics included safety, energy efficiency, digitalisation and sustainability. Session participation shows which subjects visitors made time for. Enquiries can tell a supplier how that interest is taking shape. Energy efficiency is a broad topic. When teams from several plants ask where recovered heat could be reused, what the installation would involve or how long it would take, the supplier has a more specific opportunity to investigate.
Having organised international editions, I expect the mix of heat and steam users at future shows to reflect the industrial base of each market. Engineering and manufacturing led registrations in Navi Mumbai. Elsewhere, a different mix of process industries may bring some of the same operating problems to the floor. If those problems recur across markets, manufacturers can explore whether an existing solution will travel and what kind of local support it would need.
The comparison I would make after each edition is which enquiries are becoming more specific and where they are coming from. Are biomass enquiries moving from general questions about fuel to practical questions about feeding equipment and conversion? Are chemical plants asking about recovering heat for similar uses? Are pharmaceutical teams bringing recurring requirements around water treatment or steam quality? That is how visitor data can help a manufacturer decide where to follow up, which applications to develop and where to put its engineering effort.
