Prof. Gautam Bondyopadhyay’s professional journey reflects the evolution of an engineer into an industry leader, educator and author. A BE Civil graduate from Jadavpur University (1976), he has built expertise across construction, consultancy, project management, EPC operations and technical education.
Stage 1: Construction Management (1976–1981)
He began his career with Simplex Concrete Piles and Coal India Limited, gaining foundational experience in construction management and engineering execution.
Stage 2: Consultancy and Project Management (1981–2006)
Over approximately 25 years, he worked with Development Consultants and Kuljian, progressing to senior management responsibilities. His experience covered engineering consultancy, project planning, design coordination, contracts and project management across major industrial and infrastructure sectors.
Stage 3: EPC Industry Leadership (2006–2013)
At Ion Exchange Infrastructure, he progressed from Vice President to Senior Vice President – EPC Operations in May 2013. His leadership responsibilities included engineering, procurement, construction, project execution and operational management, particularly in water and wastewater infrastructure. His experience encompassed the complete project lifecycle, including commissioning, performance trials and handover.
Stage 4: Industry–Academia Bridge (2013–June 2024)
He joined OmDayal Group of Institutions as an Assistant Professor, became Head of the Civil Engineering Department in 2015, and subsequently served as Professor of Practice from 2023. He brought practical industry experience into engineering education, preparing students for the realities of professional life.
Stage 5: Author, Mentor and Independent Professional (2024 onwards)
Following his academic career, he has continued writing, sharing technical knowledge, contributing to professional discussions and mentoring aspiring engineers and project management professionals.
Industry Leadership Beyond Engineering
Prof. Bondyopadhyay’s leadership experience extends beyond technical design. His areas of expertise include EPC project execution, strategic planning, cost control, contracts, claims management, arbitration, delay analysis, organisational development and operational performance.
His professional interests also encompass Building Information Modelling (BIM), Digital Twins, automation, artificial intelligence and sustainable infrastructure. He believes successful project management requires a balance of technical competence, financial discipline, ethical leadership and effective people management.

· His achievements include the Guiding Light – Best Educator Award (2025), presented by Padma Shri Deepa Malik in recognition of his contributions to education and authorship.
· He has also received recognition associated with the London Book of World Records/UK Recognition, featured through UK Mirror Magazine, and was profiled as an author in the March 2026 special edition of Stage Fame Magazine for his book on sustainable leadership.
