AJ Goyal, CPA, to Address U.S. Investing and Cross-Border Taxation at Ahmedabad and Bengaluru Roadshow
AJ Goyal, a U.S. Certified Public Accountant (CPA) and founder of Ascent Tax & Advisory, is set to speak at two events in India focused on overseas investing, international taxation and financial compliance.
Organised by Growwik Media, the roadshow will take place in Ahmedabad on November 21 and Bengaluru on November 28, 2026. It is aimed at Chartered Accountants (CAs), investors, entrepreneurs, business owners and finance professionals who want to understand the rules and responsibilities linked to cross-border financial activities.
Titled Build Wealth Beyond India: U.S. Investing, Cross-Border Taxation and Global Opportunities, the programme will cover U.S. investment options, currency movements, overseas remittances, tax reporting and international business structures.
AJ Goyal Brings Experience in Accounting and International Taxation
Goyal has more than two decades of professional experience across accounting, corporate finance, real estate and tax advisory. His career includes roles at Ernst & Young (EY), Pulte Homes/PulteGroup and Jones Lang LaSalle (JLL).
He earned his bachelor's degree from the University of Illinois Urbana-Champaign and completed his MBA through the University of Illinois' Chicago campus. His professional background includes financial statement audits, internal controls, corporate accounting, real estate finance and financial reporting.
Goyal later founded Ascent Tax & Advisory, a practice that works with individuals, investors, entrepreneurs, high-net-worth families and businesses with U.S. tax obligations or cross-border financial interests.
The firm's areas of practice include U.S.–India taxation, individual and business tax filings, limited liability company (LLC) and corporate structuring, foreign tax credits, tax treaty analysis, Passive Foreign Investment Company (PFIC) reporting and tax matters related to real estate investments.
His work focuses on helping clients understand the tax rules and reporting duties that may apply to their financial and business activities across countries.
U.S. Investments and Currency Movements on the Agenda
The roadshow will examine investment options available in international markets, including U.S. stocks, exchange-traded funds (ETFs) and bonds. The discussions will consider how these assets fit into a broader investment plan and what investors should assess before committing funds.
Currency risk will form another part of the programme. Changes in the value of the Indian rupee against the U.S. dollar can affect the final value of overseas investments when converted back into rupees.
For example, an investment may rise in dollar terms but deliver a different return in rupees because of exchange rate movements, fees and taxes. Currency changes can also reduce returns.
The sessions will address the role of currency exposure in financial planning. Past exchange rate movements cannot predict future performance, and overseas investments remain subject to market and other risks.
Overseas Remittances and Banking Procedures to Be Discussed
Sending money abroad for investments involves regulatory requirements, bank procedures and supporting documents. The programme will introduce India's Liberalised Remittance Scheme (LRS) and explain its relevance to eligible resident individuals making permitted overseas transfers.
Participants will also discuss brokerage accounts, transaction records and the procedures involved in transferring investment proceeds back to India.
The rules that apply can depend on the investor's residential status, the purpose of the transfer and the regulations in force at the time. Investors should check current requirements with authorised banks and qualified advisers before making remittances.
Recordkeeping will also be covered, as transaction documents can help investors track their holdings, calculate gains or losses and prepare tax returns.
Tax Reporting in India and the United States
The tax sessions will address issues that may arise when Indian residents hold U.S. investments or have financial interests in both countries.
Topics will include U.S. dividend withholding, Form W-8BEN, relevant tax treaty provisions, Indian foreign-asset disclosures, foreign tax credits and capital gains reporting.
The discussions will explain why the tax treatment of an investment may differ between jurisdictions. Foreign tax credits may help eligible taxpayers account for certain taxes paid abroad, subject to the applicable rules and conditions.
PFIC reporting will also be covered. Under U.S. tax law, certain foreign investment funds and pooled investment products may fall within the PFIC rules. Their classification can affect tax treatment and reporting requirements for U.S. taxpayers.
The programme will also examine business ownership structures and international reporting duties. These matters can require separate reviews of the laws that apply in India and the United States.
Indian Chartered Accountants and Cross-Border Advisory Work
Chartered Accountants and other finance professionals are among the intended participants. The sessions will discuss common cross-border issues that may arise when clients invest overseas, operate businesses in more than one country or have U.S. tax filing obligations.
For Indian CAs, familiarity with these issues can help them identify when a client's financial affairs require specialist international tax advice. Working with qualified professionals in the relevant jurisdiction may be necessary when a matter involves rules outside the adviser's area of practice.
The programme will also address the role of documentation, tax reporting and coordination between advisers. These areas can become relevant when individuals or businesses hold assets, earn income or conduct transactions across borders.
Ahmedabad and Bengaluru to Host the November Events
The first roadshow event is scheduled for November 21, 2026, in Ahmedabad. The second is scheduled for November 28, 2026, in Bengaluru. Goyal will be the featured speaker at both events, with Growwik Media organising the programme.
The sessions will bring together subjects related to international investing, currency movements, tax treatment and compliance. The format is intended to give participants an overview of the questions they may need to consider before investing overseas or advising clients with international financial interests.
The programme does not remove the need for individual financial or tax advice. Investment choices and reporting duties depend on personal circumstances, the type of asset held and the laws that apply.
