Ravi Kapoor speaks to the media after the launch of his book in New Delhi.
New Delhi: Imagine starting a business with no internet to search for suppliers, no phone to reach customers instantly and no AI to answer your questions. That was 1998, the year Ravi Kapoor started out. On October 25, 2026, he shared that journey at Prerna Utsav 4.0, where he launched his book Success by Chance or Choice.

Ravi Kapoor’s point to the audience was simple: the tools have changed, but the rule has not. Success still comes to those who prepare and make clear choices.
Coloured gemstones in India were mostly sold loose, with no brand standing behind them. Ravi Kapoor saw this gap and filled it with Gemwix, where every gemstone comes with a certificate from IIGJ, the laboratory under GJEPC, and a printed price. Buyers can even verify a gemstone certificate online.
He told the audience he still looks for gaps like this, travelling abroad to study markets. He had recently returned from a week in China.
What does “first-generation business” mean in his case? He did not inherit a shop, a customer base or a trade network. He built Tushar Gems from the beginning.
What was the hardest part of starting in 1998? Doing everything without today’s tools. Finding information, suppliers and customers took far more time and effort.
What is the one habit he credits? Looking for what is missing in a market and choosing to fill it.
Who is the book for? Anyone who wants to do something big in life, and especially Gen Z readers choosing their path.
The book was launched at the Kendriya Hindi Sansthan, Qutub Institutional Area, New Delhi, in the presence of chief guest Ashok Kumar Singh, programme president Alka Sinha, special guest Prof. Dr. Meeta Sinha, keynote speaker Rishi Kumar Sharma, welcome president Dr. C. M. Bhagat and Sahitya 24 founder Hariprakash Pandey. The festival was organised by Prerna Darpan Sahityik evam Sanskritik Manch and Sahitya 24 Prakashan. Guests received gift bags, and the author was interviewed by media teams including the news agency IANS.
Success by Chance or Choice is published by Sahitya 24 Prakashan and is available on Amazon and Amazon Kindle.
