When most people think of a plastic surgeon, they picture someone doing facelifts, hair transplants, or cosmetic procedures to change a person's appearance.
But for Pune-based plastic, cosmetic, and reconstructive surgeon Dr. Vikramaditya Salvi, the conversation often starts in a different place.
It may begin with a patient worried about hair loss, a mother trying to regain her confidence after pregnancy, a young man embarrassed by gynecomastia, or a professional in their forties who feels tired despite looking healthy.
Over the years, Dr. Salvi began to notice a pattern.
"Patients would come to me with concerns about their appearance, but many times the real issue went much deeper," he says. "Someone worried about hair loss might also be dealing with nutritional deficiencies. Someone wanting body contouring might be struggling with metabolic health. The more I listened to patients, the more I realized that appearance and health are closely connected."
That understanding gradually shaped the philosophy behind Cosmetoplast, his aesthetic and reconstructive surgery practice in Pune.
Having trained and worked across India, Ireland, and Bahrain, Dr. Salvi has spent years helping patients look and feel their best. Yet he believes the most meaningful changes often have little to do with vanity.
"I've seen patients who avoided swimming pools because of gynecomastia. Women who hid underarm accessory breast tissue out of discomfort and embarrassment. People who stopped appearing in photographs because they lost confidence in their appearance," he explains.
"When those issues are resolved, it’s not just the body that changes. It's how they live their lives."
Today, patients seek something different than they did a decade ago.
Many no longer look for dramatic makeovers. Instead, they want to age gracefully, preserve their health, maintain their confidence, and keep feeling energetic as they grow older.
They are asking about hair preservation before they lose significant hair. They want to understand how to maintain healthy skin instead of just treating wrinkles. They are increasingly interested in fitness, nutrition, sleep, stress management, and preventive healthcare.
According to Dr. Salvi, this shift is one of the most significant changes he has seen in modern medicine.
"People are no longer just asking, 'How can I look younger?' They're asking, 'How can I stay healthy, active, and confident for longer?' That’s a completely different conversation."
The trend has motivated him to move beyond traditional aesthetic medicine and explore the growing field of longevity and preventive healthcare.
This vision eventually led to the creation of TruPeak Health, a healthcare initiative focused on understanding how factors like metabolism, body composition, cardiovascular fitness, nutrition, and lifestyle impact long-term health.
