NEW DELHI: Harshit Dhingaun, Founder of Delhi Fashion Week and Chairman of Delhi Fashion Club, met the Hon’ble Chief Minister of Meghalaya, Conrad K. Sangma, at Meghalaya House, New Delhi, during a social gathering organised in connection with an event.
The meeting comes following the successful international promotion of Meghalaya’s indigenous Ryndia (Eri) silk, handloom heritage and tourism in Russia through International Reinvent Northeast Season 9, an initiative of Delhi Fashion Club presented in collaboration with the prestigious 31st Admiralty Needle International Fashion, Art & Design Festival in St. Petersburg, Russia.
International Reinvent Northeast Season 9: Meghalaya’s Ryndia Silk on the Global Stage
Harshit Dhingaun led and directed the Delhi Fashion Week segment at the international festival as its International Fashion Director, bringing Indian fashion and Northeast India’s indigenous textile heritage to an international platform.
A major highlight was a special international masterclass presented by Dhingaun at St. Petersburg State University of Industrial Technologies and Design, titled “India: The Land of Diversity – Ryndia, The Fabric of Peace.”
The presentation introduced international students and fashion professionals to Meghalaya’s indigenous Ryndia silk, its traditional craftsmanship and cultural significance, creating greater international visibility for the state’s textile heritage.
The Indian fashion presentation also featured Manipur-based designer Lairenlakpam Lily Chanu of Shiroi Lily Closet, who showcased her collection “Threads of Manipur – A Legacy of Heritage & Elegance,” celebrating Manipur’s traditional handloom and cultural identity.
A Decade of Promoting Northeast India and Five Years of Meghalaya Outreach
Dhingaun has been actively promoting Northeast India’s culture, heritage and tourism for the past 10 years, with a special focus on Meghalaya for over five years.
Through Delhi Fashion Club’s flagship platform, Delhi Fashion Week, he has showcased and promoted Meghalaya’s traditional textiles twice, during Season 1 and Season 2, providing national visibility to the state’s indigenous craftsmanship and handloom traditions.
His contribution also extends to digital media through his YouTube platform, The VOY – Voice of Youth, which has been promoting Meghalaya’s culture, tourism and traditions for the past five years.
His extensive ground-level cultural coverage includes major festivals and celebrations representing the state’s diverse communities, including the Garo Tribe’s Wangala Festival (1000 Drums Festival), the Khasi Tribe’s Shad Suk Mynsiem, the Jaintia Tribe’s Behdienkhlam and the Koch community’s conference in Meghalaya.
Looking Ahead: Strengthening Meghalaya’s Global Cultural Presence
Looking ahead, Dhingaun aims to further strengthen Meghalaya’s national and international visibility through fashion, tourism and digital media initiatives.
One of the proposed initiatives for 2027 is the dedicated promotion of Wangala Festival – The 1000 Drums Festival in Tura, Garo Hills, through his YouTube platform, The VOY – Voice of Youth. The proposed digital campaign will showcase the festival’s unique traditions, Garo cultural heritage, music, dance, indigenous lifestyle and tourism potential to a wider national and international audience.
Additionally, he is exploring potential fashion opportunities and cultural presentations in the coming year through Delhi Fashion Club and Delhi Fashion Week to promote Meghalaya’s indigenous textiles, traditional craftsmanship and cultural identity on national and international platforms.
Through his continued engagement with Northeast India, Dhingaun aims to build stronger cultural connections and create opportunities for the region through fashion diplomacy, international collaborations, tourism promotion and digital storytelling.
From Delhi Fashion Week’s runways to the international fashion stage in Russia, Harshit Dhingaun’s initiatives reflect a decade-long commitment to bringing Northeast India’s cultural heritage, indigenous textiles and tourism to wider national and global audiences.
