For Anand Priya Deo, the United Nations represents an important part of a wider journey that has moved across corporate offices, international development organisations and rural Bihar. In 2024, he was invited to participate as a panel speaker at the United Nations Social Forum. In October 2026, he is set to return to a UN setting for the Geneva launch of his memoir, Follow Your Heart.
The book will also be introduced at the Frankfurt International Book Fair on 11 October, before the special launch at the United Nations premises in Geneva on 13 October. A Book Talk at the Global Campus of Human Rights in Venice is scheduled for 16 October.
Deo’s career began with nearly a decade at Airtel and PepsiCo. Rather than remaining on a conventional corporate trajectory, he pursued two Master’s degrees in the UK and Europe and gained experience through an internship with the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights.
His professional work later included organisations such as Medic Mobile, Grameen Foundation and Karya, with experience across Africa and Southeast Asia. Travel to more than 70 countries further broadened his perspective on development and social progress.
In 2022, Deo founded the Ananda Foundation in Sikaria, Nawada, Bihar, reconnecting his global experience with the needs of his ancestral community. The foundation works on women’s empowerment, health and hygiene, and livelihood opportunities.
Follow Your Heart reflects on the uncertainty and determination involved in changing direction. Its central message is that a meaningful life need not follow a predetermined route, and that professional experience can become a foundation for a deeper social purpose.
