We want to explain why, because the reason matters more than the water.
What we refuse
We refuse to put our water through reverse osmosis. We refuse chemical re-mineralisation. We refuse aggressive ozonation. We refuse any treatment process that fundamentally alters the composition of the water that left our source. The water we deliver to a Pikova customer is, as closely as a regulated water brand in India can manage, what the source gave us.
This is a difficult position to hold commercially. RO is cheaper to operate. It is more predictable. It allows a brand to source water from any borehole, any river, any municipal supply, and produce a consistent output. It is what most of the category does, because it works at scale and the consumer cannot see the difference on the label.
We chose the harder route on purpose.
What the refusal protects
When water is run through aggressive treatment, it loses what made it water from its source. The calcium it carried, the magnesium it carried, the bicarbonates it carried all stripped, along with the contaminants. What survives the membrane is a baseline liquid that has no geographical character.
Pikova's source is a specific Himalayan aquifer in the Himalayan region, at a depth of more than 250 feet. The composition of our water reflects the geology of that source, which is naturally occurring calcium 32-45 mg/L, magnesium 5-7 mg/L, bicarbonates 130-160 mg/L, natural pH 7.8-8+, and TDS 240-280 mg/L.
These numbers are not engineered. They are the geology of the rock formations our source has been filtering through for decades, expressed in our chemistry.
When we refuse aggressive treatment, what we are refusing to lose is this. The source's geological signature. The reason a Pikova bottle tastes like what it is from rather than like what a treatment plant produced.
Why this matters for the body
We have written about this in our manifesto, and it is the core of why Pikova exists. The body is seventy percent water. The water you drink is the substance your body continuously rebuilds itself from. The minerals that water naturally carries arrive in molecular forms that the body has evolved to recognise and absorb. Engineered re-mineralisation, by contrast, arrives in dosed, industrial molecular forms that the body absorbs less efficiently and recognises less completely.
This is the practical difference between living water and what we have been quietly drinking for two decades. The first is what the body knows itself by. The second is what the body works with when the first is unavailable.
Pikova's refusal to put our water through aggressive treatment is, simply, our refusal to deliver to a body what the body recognises only partly. We are the logistics between the Himalayan source and the home that wants its water back the way water has been for thousands of years.
What our actual process looks like
We do treat the water minimally. Indian regulation requires it, and safety requires it. Our process is restricted to sedimentary filtration that removes particulates without altering the dissolved mineral composition. We use no chemical sterilisation. We use no reverse osmosis. We use no re-mineralisation.
We bottle at the source. No long pipelines. From rock to bottles, the journey is short and clear.
Every batch is tested in third-party labs and verified against the IS 13428:2024 standard for natural mineral water. The reports are not buried. Every batch of natural mineral water undergoes structured laboratory testing prior to release. Mineral composition ranges are regularly monitored to ensure consistency without altering the natural profile.
What you taste
There is just water, the way water used to be before the industry started engineering it.
We are not asking the drinker to taste expertise. We are asking them to drink what their grandparents' well-water would have tasted like, if their grandparents had lived in the Himalayas.
That is the experience.
The promise inside the refusal
Refusing to strip water and then sell it back to the consumer is, in our view, the most basic respect a water brand can show. The consumer is not being asked to trust our science. The consumer is being asked to trust that we have not done anything unnecessary to what nature already finished.
Pikova is, at its core, a logistics company between a source and a home. We move the water. We protect it on the way. We deliver it. That is the whole job. We have no business adding industrial steps that the body does not need and the source does not deserve.
What is in the Pikova bottle is closer to what water actually is than what most Indian premium homes have been drinking for twenty years. That is not a marketing claim. It is an operational choice we made on day one and we will keep making.
The body has been waiting to be asked. We are asking on its behalf.
