The Mentor of Change: Pon Maa Kishan’s Mission to commercialize Indian Innovations
Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], May 6: In the rapidly evolving landscape of Indian innovation, few individuals bridge the gap between academic research and commercial viability as effectively as Pon Maa Kishan. A visionary entrepreneur and aerospace engineer, Kishan’s recent appointment as the Technology Transfer Officer at VIT Chennai marks a pivotal moment for the region’s industrial-academic synergy.
Bridging the "Lab-to-Market" Gap at VIT Chennai
In his current role at VIT Chennai, which he assumed in April 2026, Kishan is focused on a singular, high-impact mission: transforming high-level academic research into market-ready spinoffs. By identifying high-potential innovations within the university and connecting them with industry leaders, he is actively bridging the traditional divide between classroom theory and commercial application. His office is currently inviting industry partners to explore technology transfer opportunities that promise to disrupt the tech landscape.
A Legacy of Incubation Excellence
Kishan’s appointment at VIT comes on the heels of a transformative tenure as the head of the Hindustan Technology Business Incubator (HTBI). From 2024 to early 2026, he was instrumental in securing a landmark $100,000 international fund from the US-based Dialin LLC and helping them to establish an Indian Operation unit at Chennai. During his tenure, the Bay Range Innovation and Incubation Council (a Section 8 company) was established at Hindustan University providing a launchpad for startups in Aerospace, Defense, and AI.
This follows his success as the Chief Executive Officer of the AMET Chamber for Entrepreneurship, where he established India’s first maritime-focused incubator from scratch, mentoring over 30 startups that collectively secured significant seed funding.
The Entrepreneurial Spirit: Sukish Enterprises and Beyond
Beyond his institutional roles, Kishan is a prolific founder. Alongside Co-Founder Ms. Suguna, he leads Sukish Enterprises Private Limited, a venture launched in June 2024 that reflects his commitment to building sustainable, scalable business models.
Beyond his institutional leadership, Kishan’s entrepreneurial journey is a masterclass in diversification, spanning over a decade of disruptive ventures across multiple sectors. Since 2015, he has steered Wings of Aero as a premier aerospace consulting agency, while simultaneously managing TEMS Tech Solutions, a tech consulting firm that operated through 2022. His commitment to the aeronautical community was further solidified during his tenure as Founder and President of the Society of Aeronautical Engineers from 2016 to 2019. Kishan’s versatility is evident in his successful pivot into the consumer market with Zpoons, a local e-commerce and grocery delivery platform that served communities until 2023, and his foray into the digital tool space with the ToDo Calculator, designed to simplify complex numerical engineering problems. His dedication to human capital is reflected in Mastering Up, an EdTech platform providing project-based learning, while his international business acumen was highlighted during his time with Sweden-based Freebonde AB. As Chief Business Officer, he drove the expansion of their Web3 and AI-integrated AgriTech platform, championing sustainable hydroponics on a global scale.
A Journey Defined by Record-Breaking Innovation
Born in 1991 in the Tirunelveli District, Kishan’s trajectory from a CAD Designer in 2012 to a global innovation leader is a testament to relentless curiosity. Holding both a Bachelor’s and Master’s in Aeronautical Engineering from Anna University, he has consistently pushed the boundaries of the possible.
Kishan famously led a team to break a Guinness World Record for the "World’s Largest Hydro Rocket," standing 5 meters high. His intellectual contributions include five research articles, two books, and a unique copyright for the "Aero Anthem."
His expertise has been recognized at the highest levels, earning him the title of "Mentor of Change" by NITI Aayog and the prestigious selection as the NASA Coordinator for "Scientist for a Day" in 2020.
The Road Ahead
As he settles into his role at VIT Chennai, Pon Maa Kishan is looking toward the future of "Innovation Spinoffs." His unique perspective—having been both a founder and an incubator head—allows him to speak all the language of the inventor, the industrialist and the investor.
For industries looking to acquire cutting-edge technology or for startups looking to spin off from academic roots, Kishan represents the vital link ensuring that India’s next great invention doesn't just stay in a lab, but changes the world.
