India’s position in the global economy is changing rapidly. The country is no longer viewed only as one of the world’s largest emerging markets, but increasingly as a participant capable of shaping conversations around trade, investment, infrastructure, technology and international economic cooperation.
At the centre of this evolving landscape are professionals who understand that global business is built not merely through transactions, but through institutions, relationships and long-term trust. Dr. Harvansh Chawla represents one such perspective.
With more than three decades of experience spanning international law, corporate advisory and cross-border economic matters, Chawla has built his professional career around the intersection of law, business and international engagement. He is the Founder and Managing Partner of K. R. Chawla & Co. and has advised businesses and institutions on complex corporate and international matters.
His current role as Chairman of the BRISEC Chamber of Commerce & Industry adds another dimension to this work. The organisation focuses on creating greater engagement between businesses, institutions and economies, with an emphasis on collaboration and international opportunities.
### From legal expertise to economic diplomacy
For Chawla, law is not simply about interpreting regulations. In an increasingly interconnected economy, legal frameworks determine how confidently businesses can enter new markets, attract capital, form international partnerships and protect their interests.
That understanding becomes particularly important as Indian companies expand beyond traditional markets.
Cross-border business today requires an appreciation of multiple systems, cultures and regulatory environments. It also requires institutions capable of bringing decision-makers together. This is where Chawla's experience across legal advisory and international business engagement becomes particularly relevant.
His work reflects a broader shift taking place in India's business ecosystem: the growing importance of professionals who can connect legal knowledge with commercial opportunity and international relations.
### Building bridges between businesses and markets
One of the most important challenges for businesses seeking international growth is access.
Access does not simply mean entering another country. It means finding the right partners, understanding local regulations, building credibility and developing relationships that can survive beyond a single transaction.
Chawla's work through BRISEC CCI reflects this approach. In recent engagements, he has emphasised collaboration, knowledge sharing and partnerships as important drivers of economic growth.
This philosophy is increasingly relevant for Indian businesses, particularly as companies from sectors ranging from technology and manufacturing to professional services seek international markets.
### The importance of institutional leadership
India's global economic ambitions require more than individual entrepreneurs and successful companies. They require institutions that can facilitate dialogue between governments, industry leaders, professionals and investors.
That institutional role is becoming increasingly significant as India participates more actively in global economic conversations.
Chawla's involvement in business forums, professional institutions and international trade discussions reflects this larger responsibility. His nomination to the academic board of the Institute of Company Secretaries of India was also positioned around strengthening professional education and aligning corporate governance with the evolving needs of India's business environment.
