THE INITIATOR

Nishanth Muraleedharan is a handloom evangelist with 15+ years of experience in the textile industry, who launched this brand " DMZ INTERNATIONAL " initiative in 2019 with the motto of helping the Weavers & Artisans across India for Protecting their age-old Handmade Crafts! Interestingly Indian handloom is a culmination of 5000 years of a rich heritage which has never been adequately recorded or documented in any significant form. 
We are closely working with the artisans and weavers through the length and breadth of this country. We have assimilated the know-how and pedagogy and developed deep market insights which make our handmade products an unmatched brand in this field.

Our latest project is to help Artisans and weavers from Bengal who is very much expertise in crafting real muslin fabric/sarees with yarn count above 250 to 300+. 
As we all know covid hit the whole world hard. Handloom is not an exception and still now the weaving community facing a real hard time. On this note, DMZ INTERNATIONAL is committed to supporting the hand craftsmen with our limited ability. 
We ran a project where we placed bulk pre-order for muslin. The product is 6.5 Mtr Muslin Jamdani fabric having a width of 46 inches. You can drape this fabric as a saree or you may hire a tailor and make dresses out of it.

How does this project help artisans?

Generally, ground-level artisans don’t have money to use a working capital hence they mostly work under traders and middlemen. Here we gave orders for bulk muslin sarees and we paid artisans 50% advance in time of order placement and the rest 50% paid before delivery.

That 2nd part of the payment is the remuneration they earned. Getting that remuneration at once may get them some bulk amount so that they can kick-start their own venture. Generally, from middlemen or traders, they get remuneration in installments hence that small amount went out for daily life needs. 

Our pre-orders helped them to get the amount in one shot so that they can use it as working capital. In this process, you are getting a muslin and also helping a group of muslin weavers to arrange working capital for an independent venture.
