Basmat — In a strong step towards safeguarding the youth from the dangers of substance abuse, Pyramid International School, Basmat organized an Orientation Programme on Awareness for Drugs and Narcotics as part of the Maharashtra Police 3-Day Awareness Campaign. The campaign, initiated by the Maharashtra Police Department, aims to educate young minds and communities about the severe consequences of drug abuse and the importance of building a drug-free society.
The programme was conducted under the esteemed guidance of Superintendent of Police (SP) Shreekrushna Kokate, Additional SP Meena Kamlesh, and Sub-Divisional Police Officer (SDPO) Rajkumar Kendre. The orientation session was led by API Gajanan Borate and Sahebrao Chavhan from Gramin Police Station, Basmat, who brought their on-ground policing experience to the discussion, making it relatable and impactful for students.
During the session, students were informed about the different types of narcotics and psychotropic substances, their harmful effects on physical and mental health, and the devastating impact they can have on families and communities. The speakers also shed light on the legal consequences of drug possession, trafficking, and consumption under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act. They stressed that even a single wrong step could not only ruin a career but also lead to serious legal trouble.
To make the discussion more engaging, the officers shared real-life case studies from the region, highlighting how peer pressure, curiosity, and lack of awareness often lead young people towards drugs. They also offered practical tips for resisting such temptations, including the importance of choosing the right friends, seeking help when in doubt, and participating in healthy, productive activities. Students were encouraged to report any suspicious activities related to drugs to the authorities without fear, as their safety and confidentiality would be ensured.
School Director Firoj Kachhi delivered a short but powerful message, emphasizing that awareness at a young age is the most effective way to prevent drug abuse. He urged students to not only protect themselves but also to become messengers of change in their neighborhoods. Principal Jayshree Deoda expressed heartfelt gratitude to the police department for their initiative and dedication to youth welfare. She applauded the interactive nature of the session and encouraged students to carry forward the knowledge they had gained.
The session concluded with a pledge ceremony, where all students, teachers, and guests took an oath to stay away from drugs, support anti-drug initiatives, and help create a safe environment in their community. This symbolic gesture reinforced the message that the fight against drugs is a collective responsibility.
The event was part of a larger statewide movement by the Maharashtra Police to reach out to schools, colleges, and rural communities.
