On November 9, 2024, the Institute of Public Health and Hygiene (IPHH) College of Nursing and Allied Health Sciences took an active role in the “Swachh Survekshan” rally organized by the Government Maternity Hospital in Gandhinagar, Jammu. The event was held to create awareness about hygiene practices and the importance of cleanliness in communities, encouraging collective efforts to make cities cleaner and healthier places to live.
The rally commenced at 11:30 a.m., with the Municipal Commissioner, Mr. Dinesh Yadav, inaugurating the event. Mr.Yadav shared essential information about the Swachh Survekshan initiative and introduced this year’s theme, “Swabhav Swachhata, Sanskar Swachha.” This theme emphasizes the role of individual values and cultural practices in maintaining cleanliness, reflecting the broader mission of the Swachh Survekshan program to foster healthy competition and pride among cities in achieving higher cleanliness standards.
The rally brought together nursing students from various academic levels, including the second-semester B.Sc. Nursing students and GNM (General Nursing and Midwifery) students from the second and third years, as well as those enrolled through lateral entry and the Multi-Purpose Health Worker (MPHW) program. Under the coordination of Mr.Naseer Sultan, the students participated in the event, carrying messages and raising awareness about hygienic practices, the prevention of infections, and the adverse impacts of unhygienic conditions on public health.
Participants marched from the Government Maternity Hospital, actively engaging with the local community to emphasize the significance of sanitation. The rally concluded at 1:30 p.m., with Dr.Arun Kumar, the Medical Superintendent of the Maternity Hospital, giving closing remarks and highlighting the crucial role of healthcare workers and citizens alike in building a cleaner, healthier society.
The rally served its purpose effectively, spreading knowledge about the importance of hygienic practices in daily life. The IPHH students, as part of their commitment to community health, helped increase awareness about sanitation, aligning with the objectives of Swachh Survekshan. The event was a reminder of the power of collective efforts in promoting cleanliness, contributing to the broader national mission of a cleaner India.
