Board exams can be one of the most stressful times in the lives of children and young adults. The Akhil Bharatiya Adarsh Chaurasia Mahasabha works actively during exam months to ensure that they are able to help all students get the right guidance to deal with the extra stress faced by them during exams.
Board exams are considered to be the most important exams in the lives of Indian children. They are often told by their parents that their entire future depends on the marks that they get in the board exams. This is because what their parents taught them too. The education system is also designed in such a way that 10th and 12th board exams are considered to be a pivotal point in the entire educational journey. Therefore, it is evident that it is the board exams which cause the most stress to children and even their parents and families.
What is the solution for this? We asked Mr. Ramesh Chaurasia, the president of the organization. He answered, “I think that there are a lot of things that students can do to combat the stress of board exams. The best thing to do would be to manage the time between subjects accordingly. It gets monotonous to study the same subject for hours on end. The key is to diversify and include more subjects with regular short breaks. The students should also ensure that they talk to their parents and friends regularly during this period. Parents should ensure that the students are given timely healthy meals so that there is no compromise on nutrition. Adequate sleep is absolutely essential for retention and this is why it should be ensured that the child gets at least seven hours of sleep. To optimize the learning experience and ensure productivity, students should take breaks in between and also utilize early morning hours. We are working with educationalists and psychologists to come up with more ways to help students who are appearing for their boards.”
Upgrading the learning experience
The Akhil Bharatiya Adarsh Chaurasia Mahasabha is working on a lot of initiatives which are targeted towards the welfare and development of school going children. The organization has launched an extensive E Portal where free E-Learning resources are made available. Anyone interested in learning can have access to a large variety of E-Books and other course material. A lot of children from the Chaurasia community have used the online learning portal to get digital versions of books they could not have had access to otherwise.
On the other hand, there are a lot of practical initiatives started by Mr. Ramesh Chaurasia and his team, specifically for students appearing for the board exams. Special counselling sessions are organized where students are given the chance to interact with professional counsellors who guide them to deal with the stress which comes during exam preparation.
Group discussion sessions are organized where students come together and discuss different issues that they are facing during exam preparation. This is the best way to make students understand that they are not alone and all their problems have a solution. With the help of counsellors, it is ensured that slow learners are given special attention and are motivated to perform best according to their ability.
“Children are the future. We don’t want them to undergo acute stress at such a young age. This is supposed to be a period of learning. Many students take dangerous steps due to the fear of failing in exams and this has been happening for a long time. It is time to express to our children that they are not alone and this is just another exam which they can pass with the right preparation and right methods. At our camps, we instruct students to build a proper time table and diversify the subjects. Our team has expert volunteers who teach stress relieving techniques and exercises to students. We also invite parents and help them deal with the stress that they go through during the examination phase.” – Mr. Ramesh Chaurasia expressed his thoughts about exam stress and how to resolve it.
With the combined efforts of students, parents, teachers and the community, board exams are going to be a fun milestone and not something to be scared of. Due to the efforts of Mr. Chaurasia and his team, more students are now able to deal with exam stress and are also helping their peers do the same.
