UGC Chairman M Jagadesh Kumar clarified on Thursday that no formal decision has been taken on the merger of the medical entrance exam NEET and engineering entrance test JEE with CUET-UG.
Latest Update:
- No plans to merge the exams for at least next two years says Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
- There is no formal decision taken for the Merger of the JEE, NEET and CUET and nothing will be imposed on the students says UGC Chief M Jagdesh Kumar two days after the statement of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
UGC Cheif M Jagdesh Kumar had revealed last month that JEE Main and NEET Exam will be merged with the CUET exam in the future. Moreover, he also stated that a committee of experts will be formed by the UGC to explore the ways to make this merger happen. As per the chairman, this merger of Joint Entrance Examination (JEE) and National Eligibility cum Entrance Test( NEET ) exams into Common University Entrance Test (CUET) will reduce the burden of the students. The merger will happen under the National Education Policy, 2020.
Talking about the entrance exams, JEE Main is the gateway for admission in all the top engineering institutes and NEET is the entrance test for all the Undergraduate medical entrance exams.
Common University Entrance Test, which is currently in progress, is founded with the agenda of keeping a single entrance exam for admission in all the universities says UGC Chief. The exam is likely to be conducted at least twice a year from 2023-24.
JEE Main, NEET to be merged with CUET
M Jagdesh Kumar said, there are currently three major entrance exams in our country after the release of the CUET i.e., JEE Mains, NEET and CUET. Most of the students either write minimum two exams or write all the three exams to get the admission in the prestigious colleges and universities.
He added, the syllabus of JEE Main covers subjects like Math’s, Physics and Chemistry and NEET exam includes Biology, Physics and chemistry. As two subjects are common of both the tests with CUET, students will get a big relief with the Merger.
When Will CUET, NEET and JEE Exams be Combined?
UGC Chief has made it very clear that nothing is finalized yet and wants to make sure that other stake holders such as NTA are well-prepared before the merger happens.
The newly formed committee by the UGC will review the current procedures of both the exams for admission in UG as well as PG courses and will give the recommendation afterwards. After which, the UGC will give the proposals to the stakeholders for feedback and then everything will be finalized.
The process will take more than a year which will mentally prepare the students as well as the stakeholders for the merger.
Syllabus For CUET UG Exam
The syllabus of CUET-UG will be new and refined but will also follow the NCERT syllabus and the NTA will be instructed to keep the syllabus from the class 12 for all disciplines including the subjects related to the JEE and NEET which will help the students to score much better without taking much pressure.
Controversy Concerning the CUET’s
Because of technical difficulties, NTA has been surrounded by controversies for not able to conduct the CUET-UG 2022 phase two exam at various exam centers. Which led to concern in the students’ the merger of all the three entrance exams will create alot of pressure on the NTA.
However, the UGC Chairman has made it clear the NTA has learnt from the errors of August 04 and has already fixed it. Moreover, NTA will set up some specific exam centers across the nation which will be equipeed with computers as well as other necessities by the NTA. These centres will be specifically used for these exams with the other well-known centers of our country. He also added that these exam centers will be used as training facilities when the NTA is not holding any exams.
