On November 10th, the Lions Club Sahasra Kakinada, under the leadership of President Revanth Koppisetti, organized a Childhood Cancer Awareness Campaign. This impactful event included a 2K run/walk that saw enthusiastic participation from 1800 individuals, including 150 children and 50 doctors, all coming together to raise awareness about childhood cancer and the importance of early diagnosis.
The campaign was supported by Seelam Monica, founder of Maxi Shield – Radiation Free Living, as the official sponsor. Maxi Shield advocates for a safer environment by reducing radiation exposure, aligning with the campaign’s health-centric message. The slogan for the event, “Early Diagnosis Can Save Lives”, resonated with participants, emphasizing the importance of detecting cancer at its earliest stages to improve survival rates and outcomes.
One critical point of focus during the campaign was the danger of excessive exposure to non-ionizing radiation. Revanth Koppisetti highlighted the potential risks associated with prolonged exposure to non-ionizing radiation sources, such as cell phones, Wi-Fi, and other electronic devices, which, though lower in energy than ionizing radiation, can still pose health risks when exposure is excessive. Raising awareness around this was a vital part of the campaign’s message, advocating for safer habits and practices in daily life.
The event was a significant success, with participants of all ages coming together to support the cause. The presence of doctors added a professional layer to the awareness campaign, as they provided insights into early diagnosis and prevention strategies for childhood cancer. With such large participation, the campaign has made strides in creating a more informed community, underscoring the importance of both awareness and proactive health measures.
